Moonlight of Lotus Pond
"Moon" is one of the most important cultural images within Chinese traditional culture. In addition to being the original meaning of the astrological sign, it is often used to describe feminine things, including women and women-related matters due to the opposite of "moon" versus "sun". The moon was also an inexhaustible theme used by ancient literati. For instance, the heroic frontier passion was fully expressed by Tang Dynasty poet Wang Changling in his poem, "The moon in Qin Dynasty and the strategic border pass in Han Dynasty." The emotion regarding the passage and the ruthless of time was delivered in the last monarch of Southern Tang Dynasty Li Yu's poem, "Spring flower and autumn moon, when will the time be over." The sleepless mood of being alone in a foreign land was fully reflected by Tang Dynasty poet Zhang Ji in his poem, "The fall of moon and the yell of crow with the frosty sky." The hard to self-restraint bitter experience due to the war and turmoil was expressed deeply by Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi in his poem, "Looking at the moon together should be sad with tears." The good memory on first love was described perfectly by Northern Song Dynasty writer Ouyang Xiu in his poem, "The moon rose to the top of the willow tree." The feeling of an unspeakable life after waking up from hangover was expressed by Northern Song Dynasty famous poet Liu Yong in his poem, "The morning breeze and the lingering moon." The circulation of the ancient people's good wishes regarding round moon and reunion of people was expressed by Northern Song Dynasty famous writer Su Shi in his poem, "sharing the same bright moon even though at different places."
I like to walk alongside the lotus pond and feel the slightly moist breeze at summer night. I can either see the swing of the shadow of lotus under the moonlight or the bright moon reflecting on the water. I can also see the blurred wave light evoked by the movement of swimming fish in the lotus pool. I like Mr. Zhu Ziqing's masterpiece of prose "Moonlight in the Lotus Pond", especially those two paragraphs describing the lotus pond in the moonlight, "The moonlight in the pond is not even, however, there is a harmonious melody composed by the light and shadow, just like the famous music played by violin." I also have my own moonlight of lotus pond in my heart which is my wonderful memory left by many countless quiet nights. This series is therefore focused to express my impression of the moonlight of lotus pond. It can be divided into two categories based on the content. The first category is related to the good view of the lotus pond in the moonlight. The moonlight is all over the pond with slow moving green lotus leaf, and light reflected on flowing water wave. The second category is related to the reflection of the full moon in the lotus pond. A round moon image is reflected on the dim water surface of the lotus pond and the light is shined along with the water waves, which shows a scene with more quiet and peaceful.
