Clear Shadow under Daylight

    The inverted image of the lotus pond is the main focus of this series. Reflection, as a kind of light effect, has its unique feature. First of all, the changes of sunshine conditions and the environment will result in the variations of shape, color and others of the image on the water surface correspondingly. Second, the movement of the environment also has a direct impact on the reflection. Although the water surface of lotus pond has the imaging function like the mirror, it is not a fixed and flat mirror after all. "When the wind is calm, the water is reflecting the scenery in the sky, like the copper mirror that has not been polished." (Liu Yuxi's poetry) That is the time when its reflection is more clear and flat. "The waves on the lake water which is like a mirror would be risen even there is no wind." (He Zhizhang's poetry) That is the time when various fantastic sights have been created by the reflection of lotus pond naturally following the waves.

    In this series with mostly the depiction of lotus pond reflection, the colors and shapes are in fact very different even though the overall picture looks similar. For some of the works, I have also deliberately used twisted and exaggerated techniques in order to show the corresponding effect. It can be a good day with beautiful wind and calm water, the lotus leaf is reflected on the water like a young lady facing a mirror for dressing. It can be a scene with blowing breeze, throwing ripples, a group of round shape lotus leaves swinging with wind, just like people who free and release themselves as they are young and frivolous. It can also be natural wonderful scenes with the red sun spraying out, or the evening sunshine dispersing splendor, and the waves flowing.
