Hidden Beautiful Spot

“Hidden Beautiful Spot” is derived from Li Bai's poem "Question and Answer Among the Mountains", “As the peach-blossom flows downstream and disappears into the unknown, I have a world apart that is not among men.” It describes that there is another world in the cave, like Peach Blossom Springs, which is unparalleled in the earthly world. The Peach Blossom Spring symbolizes a pure land away from troubles. Tao Yuanming wrote in "The Peach Blossom Spring", “At first it was very narrow, only wide enough for a man, but after forty or fifty yards he suddenly found himself in the open.” After passing through the narrow corridor, the field of vision becomes wider, as if you are in a new world. Therefore, the metaphor of "Hidden Beautiful Spot" has a different realm. It is often used to describe the fascinating realm of landscape or artistic creation.

The works in this part use graphics as the main expression point, transforming the images of words into considerable shapes and colors. For example, in the painting " Hanging Gourd", the shape of a gourd is used to separate the central part, creating the effect of "there is a painting within a painting". Another example is " Time Flies". The background of the painting depicts a desolate lotus pond scene in dim tones, while two red stars jump out of the picture, showing the rich colors of late autumn. The shape of the five-pointed star corresponds to the phrase "Things turn and stars move" in the poem “Preface to Tengwang Pavilion” by Wang Bo in Tang Dynasty, and the contrast of colors also highlights the dynamic sense of seasonal change, which is full of fun. The painting “Viewing from the Front and the Side” is divided into three parts from left to right: What has started out as a vibrant green lotus pond gradually turns into a purple cloud under the dusk. Then it returns to the tranquility of the early morning, forming a kind of loop in time; the expression of the lotus pond from different angles in space shows the color changes of the lotus pond at different times. It is just like viewing the mountain: "It's like a range when you look at the mountain from the front, but it's like a peak when you look at it sideways. The mountain shows its different features in different levels near and far.”

I have started from the scenery described in the poem and selected impressive entry points to spread out, seeing the big from the small and knowing the arrival of autumn from the falling of a leaf.  This novel perspective can bring more thoughts and insights to my creation, plus it can also bring vivid fun to the description of the text.
