Scenery of Four Seasons

        Sunrise and sunset, spring and autumn, dawn, day, dusk and night of each day, are all the eternal themes of the natural scenery. The growth state of lotus varies in different seasons. There is not only the early summer of "Little lotus flower has just exposed its sharp end and a naughty little dragonfly has long been standing on its head" (Yang Wanli's "Little Pond"), but also the autumn rain bell of "Chrysanthemums containing autumn water and lotus flowers delivering the sound of rain". (Xu Hun's "Farewell to Senior Cui") Summer is the season when all things have the strongest vitality. The lotus is in full bloom with full fragrance. The pool is full of green lotus and red petals, which is exactly "The green lotus leaves stretch to the horizon, and the lotus looks extremely bright under the sunshine." (Yang Wanli's "Go out of Jingci Temple to Farewell to Lin Zifang at Dawn")

         This series shows the different states of lotus in the natural environment, whether swaying in the morning wind or quietly drooping in the moonlight. Whether it's the rich display of lights and colors under the clear sky, or the hazy scenery with fog and rain, it is the melody that constitutes this lotus pond suite. Monet, the representative of Impressionism and a famous French painter, once painted the haystacks under the light and shadow in different seasons and different periods of time. I decided to follow the footsteps of the master and record the color impression of the lotus pond in different seasons. Based on the color composition theory of Western painting, watercolor painting uses color to express all the visible objects in nature such as shape and color, light and shadow, volume, texture and so on. The color of watercolor painting is bright and strong; full of vitality and visual tension, but it is also soft and implicative. The blending of pigment and water, and the mutual fusion of different colors create a poetic and wonderful artistic conception with a strong appeal.

        "The blooming lotus flowers are like a group of women with beautiful makeup and lotus leaves bow their heads in the wind and rain." (Xin Qiji's "Pink Beauty Dressing") The Lotus is an important image in poetry. The description of lotus by literati is full of poetic and picturesque meanings, such as "The green lotus leaves roll and sway comfortably and the red calyx opens and lingers purple" (Li Shen's "Twenty Poems of Xinlou·Lotus of Chongtai"), and "The wind brings me odors of lotuses, and bamboo-leaves drip with a music of dew" (Meng Haoran's "Summer South Pavilion"). In just a few sentences, the sweetness of flowers and leaves, the fragrance of lotus, and the pleasantness of lotus wind are all vividly on the paper. I try to capture the impression of the lotus pond with color. The green leaves in the morning light are tinged with light golden brilliance. The sunset glow dyes the pond water with a soft orange red. The lotus leaves are green and dripping in summer. The remnants of the autumn lotus are withered and yellowed. The four seasons of the lotus pond are endowed with different colors in my eyes. It is like a mirror, which provides a panoramic view of the splendid scenes in nature. It is like a tolerant friend who quietly listens to my heart.
