 Beautiful Feast on the Pond


        The inspiration of the "Beautiful Feast at the Pond" comes from Li Bai's poetry "Spring Night Feast: Peach and Plum Garden Preface", "We sit around the flowers and make a feast, taking the bird shaped wine glasses and passing them on in turn, finally drunk together under the moon." And it also comes from Liu Yun's poem "Lotus", "The water country opens a good banquet and the sky is bright in the evening". The autumn sky is clear and the air is crisp. The lotus pond glows with infinite brilliance and ordinary glory. The lotus and the water are enveloped in the warm golden autumn.

        Golden yellow is brilliant and magnificent as well as shining and active. It is gorgeous and pleasing to the eyes. It is reminiscent of rich fruits, brilliant sun, enthusiasm and inspiration. It makes people feel pleasant and cordial. I use it to express the lotus pond in autumn. In my eyes, there's no sign of decline or sadness of the lotus pond in autumn and winter. Instead, it's full of dancing notes and graceful dance, just like an intoxicating feast. "Since ancient times, autumn has been considered sad and lonely. To me, autumn is better than spring." (Liu Yuxi's "Autumn Poems") In this series, I try to express the unique interest and peaceful atmosphere of autumn in a bright and lively form by using a warm golden yellow color to set off with purple, blue, green and other cold colors. The rhythm of warm color combinations such as red, yellow and orange is emphasized, to show a harmonious and beautiful scene with poetic artistic conception, gathering my strong and distinct inner feelings.

        As Qi Baishi said, "It's wonderful between being like and not like. It would be too much kitsch if it looks too similar. If not, it would deceive the world." Although the lotus pond in autumn has inexhaustible beautiful scenery, I don't advocate simply copying it. In my creation, in terms of modeling, I borrow the lyric and freehand brushwork of Chinese ink painting with the characteristic of expressing the spirit in form to simplify the description of details and leave more imagination space for the audience. I also integrate oil painting techniques, deliberately pursue the light color and atmosphere of images, as well as endow objects with a rainbow of colors. Simple images are depicted on the picture, aiming to create a kind of lyrical appeal through rich and eye-catching colors. Thus, by means of "Image beyond an Image, Scene beyond a Scene", I can present the poetic scene of the shiny sunset, the happy feast at the lotus pond and the scenery of Immortals sitting around, as well as convey the fantastic and colorful hazy beauty.

池開瓊筵


“池開瓊筵”靈感來自李白《春夜宴桃李園序》的“開瓊筵以坐花,飛羽殤而醉月”和劉筠的《荷花》:“水國開良宴,霞天湛晚暉”。秋高氣爽,蓮塘煥發出無限光彩,崇光泛泛,荷與水都籠罩在這抹溫情的黃金秋意中。

金黃色調輝煌而燦爛,明亮而活潑,華美而悅目,使人聯想到豐碩的果實,光輝的太陽,熱情洋溢,鼓舞精神,令人感到愉快和親切,我用以表達秋日荷塘。從我眼中看來,秋冬時節的荷塘全無一點衰落憂傷,而是充滿著跳蕩的音符,婀娜的舞姿,如同一場令人陶醉的美宴。“自古逢秋悲寂寥,我言秋日勝春朝。”(劉禹錫《秋詞》)這一系列我嘗試以明朗而活潑的形式,運用金黃色的暖色調襯以紫色、藍色、綠色等冷色調,表現別具一格的秋日情趣與祥和氣氛,強調紅、黃、橙色這些暖色交織組合的韻律,展現出和聲般協調、優美且具有詩般意境的景象。當然,其中凝聚著我強烈而鮮明的內在情感。

正如齊白石所說“妙在似與不似之間,太似為媚俗,不似為欺世”,秋日的荷塘雖有取之不盡的美景,我卻不喜歡簡單照搬照抄。在創作時,造型上我借用了水墨畫的抒情寫意、以形寫神的特色,簡化了細節的描繪,留給觀者更多的想像空間。同時我也綜合了油畫技法,刻意追求意象的光色和氣氛,賦予物象繽紛色彩。畫面物象簡潔,旨在透過豐富、耐看的色彩,營造一種抒情詩般的感染力,從而借由“象外之象,景外之景”呈現晚霞暉湛,荷池中瓊筵乍啟,蕖仙間坐的詩境,傳達奇幻多姿的朦朧美。
